| This painting is a final study for Station XI of the Cross of Luc-Peter Crombé. This famous Way of the Cross hangs in the Mariahal of Scherpenheuvel. The tall figure of the sacrifice in the new covenant stands quietly against the beam, a sign of shame and of death for the violated. The Lamb rises in pure and white form against the place of sacrifice, its head still raised, its arms spread in surrender. The vertical areas mainly consist of two colours and are disrupted by smaller rhythmic parts that are positioned horizontally. |
